McMinnville

McMinnville

A Town That Doesn’t Need to Try

McMinnville is full of magic, and watching a guest discover it for the first time is one of our favorite parts of the day. There’s a natural earnestness here — small-town warmth layered with real creativity, a historic Oregon downtown filled with boutiques, restaurants, galleries, and tasting rooms you’d expect from a much larger city. McMinnville leans into its agrarian roots while welcoming new ideas in. The combination feels too good to be contrived — and the moment you arrive, you’ll feel in your bones that it isn’t.

The city is synonymous with world-class wine. Wine Enthusiast named the Willamette Valley its Wine Region of the Year in 2016, and the region hasn’t slowed down since — more recently named the world’s top wine destination for 2025 by VinePair. With more than 250 wineries within a 20-mile radius of McMinnville, the only real challenge is deciding where to start

McMinnville – Our Home Town

Let Us Show You Around

McMinnville sits in the heart of the Willamette Valley, forty miles south of Portland, surrounded by some of the finest farms, vineyards, and culinary minds anywhere. Careful restoration means downtown still looks much the way it did over a century ago. Historic Third Street, McMinnville’s bustling spine of cafes, tasting rooms, tap houses, and galleries, is walkable enough and charming enough to be named the second-best Main Street in America by Parade Magazine in 2014, edged out by only one town nationwide.

The Atticus Hotel was founded by a hometown girl who chased the dream of building a small, very special hotel in her own community — and the hotel has spent every year since telling McMinnville’s story through its art, interiors, and amenities.

We know the stories because they’re ours:

  • the Columbus Day storm of 1962 that blew down every walnut tree in town and ended our run as “Walnut City”
  • how McMinnville became a magnet for alien enthusiasts
  • the fact that “The Quarterback Princess” — the only film ever shot entirely in McMinnville — gave a young Helen Hunt her first starring role, decades before her Academy Award. We even named a suite after her. If you’re interested in seeing the film, we’ll bring a copy to your room.

We love our hometown. Helping guests fall in love with it too is the best part of our day, every day.

Historic Downtown

Oregon’s Favorite Main Street

Downtown McMinnville is about the closest thing to time travel there is. Third Street is so densely packed with old-time charm that it takes several strolls to take it all in — nearly 70 buildings forming an architecturally rich downtown district on the National Register of Historic Places. Oregon’s Willamette Valley has plenty of small, photogenic towns, but McMinnville’s depth and history set it apart.

The Atticus Hotel sits at the center of it: award-winning restaurants, boutique clothing stores, artisanal jewelry shops, specialty food markets, vintage and antique shops, record stores — all within a few minutes on foot.

The nearby riches includes:

  • award-winning restaurants
  • boutique clothing stores
  • artisanal jewelry shops
  • specialty food markets
  • vintage and antique shops
  • record stores

McMinnville begs to be explored and thanks to the Atticus Hotel’s central location, you can do so by foot or bike, at your leisure.

In Wine Country

A Stone’s Throw From It All

In McMinnville, we talk about our “20-mile hug” — the sheer number of wineries that fall within easy reach of town. More than 250 dot the hills around us, and the challenge has never been finding a place to taste. It’s narrowing down which ones are right for you.

We know this place, which means we know the nuances — the right fit for the right person, the experience that matches the mood. From expansive estates pouring Burgundian-style wines to small family wineries tucked into the hills, to rockabilly urban wineries pushing the boundaries of Oregon pinot, a home base here gives you the freedom to explore it all.

At the end of the day, you return to a town of 35,000 people with an acclaimed restaurant and tasting room scene of its own.

The Granary District

Farm Life at The Granary District

The Granary District is old and new McMinnville, all in one. Forever a gathering place, this collection of warehouses and silos just outside downtown was once McMinnville’s center for storing and processing grain and other farm goods. As growers traded walnuts and wheat for grapevines, the District evolved into a kind of community cellar, with wineries moving into the old agricultural buildings one by one.

Today it’s both a marketplace and a tribute to that history — a place to grab a freshly roasted cup of coffee, catch a live show at the amphitheater, browse fresh produce, or rub elbows with a winemaker at a food cart. If Third Street is McMinnville’s prized crop, the Granary District is the soil that got it there.

Here, you can:

  • Watch the district’s urban winemakers at work
  • Grab a cup of coffee at a local roaster
  • Stop for a beer at a brew pub
  • Settle in for farm-to-table cuisine
  • Book a treatment at the spa
