A Collaboration with Linfield University

Application Deadline: October 1, 2024

Residency Dates: November 15th through April 1st

Program Overview

Locally owned and operated, the Atticus Hotel is a celebration of our community’s history and culture, shared with guests through storytelling, art, architecture, and locally sourced and crafted products. We have deep roots in the local arts community, and feature all original, local pieces throughout the property, as well as three special installations created through a facilitated community art project.

The Atticus Hotel Artist in Residency program (AH, AIR) is the next chapter in our own story, expanding our efforts to support the arts from facilitation and acquisition to direct support for artists who are in the process of creating new works.

A working collaboration with the Linfield University Creative Writing Department, the AH, AIR program provides opportunities for college students to review and score submissions, and then invite selected writers into the classroom during their residency for an integrative classroom experience, with options ranging from readings to workshops and Q&A sessions.

Focused on the written word, the AH, AIR program offers residencies to writers who are seeking to do focused work in an inspirational environment and become a part of the amazing family of people who bring the Atticus vision to life every day.

To integrate residents with our hotel family and the Linfield community, and to foster connections locally, AH, AIR participants are expected to contribute a representative piece of their artistic lives during their residency. Contributions could include a copy of a previously published work to the AH, AIR library; a reading at our local library or bookshop; or a writing workshop or other experience that works to foster and deepen connections.

Residency Types

One of the main objectives of the AH, AIR program is to meet writers where they are at, both creatively and logistically. Residencies vary in length to provide flexible options for our resident artists, understanding that the needs of our lives and our art depend on a variety of factors.

The AH, AIR program offers three types of residencies:

  • An intensive four-day option
  • A longer format two-week residency
  • An extended four-week stay

Residencies run from November 15th through April 1st and may be concurrent or singular based on availability.

Artists in Residence will receive a room at the Atticus Hotel for the duration of their stay, and all the perks of the experience, including 24/7 complementary espresso, use of our Dutch-style bikes, the option of working in our hidden Drawing Room or our Board Room, and all other guest amenities. Additionally, each resident will receive credit for one meal a day in the hotel’s onsite Mediterranean inspired restaurant, Cypress.

Residencies are single occupancy, although a guest may join you for the final night(s) of your stay. Pets are allowed based on hotel policies.
