Milestones come in all shapes and sizes, and yesterday marked an exciting victory for our interiors team. The Atticus Hotel chair was born.

And better yet, it’s being manufactured for us just down the road in Tigard. One of our guiding values throughout the creation of the Atticus Hotel has been our concentric approach to sourcing products and vendors locally. We start by trying to meet our needs with a McMinnville based product or company, and then we extend our circle outward to Yamhill County, the state of Oregon and finally the rest of the country.

I wish I could tell you that every material or product in the hotel was (at a bare minimum) made in the USA, but despite our best efforts, that wouldn’t be true. What I can tell you is that our team has gone to great lengths to work with local vendors and Oregon based brands and we’re proud of the ways in which we’ve expanded our own horizons about what really can be sourced within our state. From light fixtures to wallpaper (with many products in between) we’re working with some amazing companies in Oregon.

So back to the Atticus Hotel chair.

Over the last year Christina Tello, our lead designer, has been working with a Tigard based furniture manufacturing company to design and build the couches and chairs for the Atticus Hotel. Our team has spent time touring their factory and talking with their owners about how we could work together to create custom furniture that celebrates their commitment to quality and fits with our aesthetic for the hotel.

Yesterday we saw the chair prototype for the first time, and we love it. We also love knowing that items like couches and chairs don’t have to come off of a ship from China—that we can stay true to our goal of sourcing locally and meet our design objectives.

In addition to our couches and chairs, we’re also excited to say that our Restonic mattresses are being manufactured in Yamhill County at Newberg based Oregon Mattress Company, and that many of our tables are being built in McMinnville at Basile’s Workshop. The Atticus Hotel will also feature light fixtures from three Portland based design and manufacturing companies: Schoolhouse Electric, Cedar & Moss & Rejuvenation. The beautiful fixtures from these companies will be featured throughout the hotel, accenting walls that feature Portland based JuJu papers (look for JuJu’s signature vibe as well as some custom wallpaper collaborations with our team). Our bathroom design is centered around artisan tile from Portland based Ann Sacks, whose designs never cease to dazzle us.

We’re also working with teams of local artists, artisans and makers to fully bring the Atticus Hotel to life. We hope our guests will appreciate that our use of local products and materials is not only a part of our philosophy of sourcing locally—both because it supports our local economy and gives deeper meaning to the spaces we’re creating—but also because we believe deeply that true luxury is defined by the intent behind every detail.
