So many important elements lie just below the surface. Over the past six weeks, we’ve watched the Atticus Hotel construction site take on a life of its own, developing a carefully calibrated daily rhythm as McMinnville’s newest hotel starts to take shape before our eyes. Watching the site from afar we have witnessed holes being dug, filled and then seemingly dug all over again, as utilities are buried and the site is compacted to prepare for the weight of 23,000 square feet. There’s a whole universe of electrical and plumbing snaking a subterranean path under the Atticus Hotel, systems now safely buried under the foundation we celebrated on June 9th (and christened with some beautiful sparkling Oregon wine from R. Stuart & Co. and Sokol Blosser).

Shortly after our Foundation Celebration—where we celebrated not just the foundation of the Atticus Hotel, but all the hard work that’s gone into building a solid foundation for McMinnville as the heart of Oregon wine country—the team at R&H Construction wasted no time in pouring our stem walls. Our slab followed quickly thereafter, and the footprint of the hotel came into clear focus for the first time.

The Next Milestone

Yesterday we hit another project milestone when the Atticus Hotel came up off the ground and became vertical. Crews worked all day framing the first floor, giving shape and form to the plans we’ve spent so much time with on paper. In keeping with the architecture in Historic Downtown McMinnville, the ground level of the hotel has 13 foot ceilings, which seem towering visually after years of looking at a flat lot on the corner of 4th and Ford. For the next twelve weeks crews will be on site every day translating architect Nathan Cooprider’s beautiful plans from ink to wood, racing to get the walls up and a roof on before the rain starts again.

Preparing for Our First Hire

Over the next twelve weeks, the Atticus Hotel team will also be posting our first position and bringing a General Manager on board just in time to see the roof go on at the end of September. We’re excited to recruit a dynamic leader to take the reins at the Atticus Hotel and help bring our vision for a luxury hotel in the heart of McMinnville—and the Willamette Valley’s amazing wine and food scene—to life.

Stay tuned to our social media accounts for the GM job posting on July 1st and for more updates on the Atticus Hotel as the walls continue to go up.
